Week one of Rowayton for Rowayton has been a huge success! Thank you for all of the positive feedback on our campaign to help minimize the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic on our broader community. Our decision to pivot from event planning to advocacy was an easy one and it is already making waves in these uncertain times.
We are pleased to announce the Rowayton for Rowayton Challenge. The RCA has pledged $10,000 to several local nonprofit organizations that we believe are doing an exemplary job helping those in need during this crisis.
Now Rowayton, WE CHALLENGE YOU to do to the same. Use our digest of organizations or find your own and donate today. Then let us know by emailing Meg Schwanhausser that you have given and we will include you in the Rowayton for Rowayton network on our website.

A group of Norwalk residents have come together on the internet to lift up their local community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Norwalk Mutual Aid was founded in response to immense hardships on the community, particularly the elderly or immuno-compromised.
When Achievement First, a charter school network serving over 15,000 students across CT, NYC and RI decided to move to remote learning during the COVID-19 crisis, Rowaton resident Maura Bonanni and her team worked to distribute thousands of Chromebooks and wifi hotspots to students in need while at home during the quarantine action.
If anyone would like to purchase a #RowaytonForRowayton bumper sticker, please send an email to Meg Schwanhausser. We are selling them for $10 and all profits will go to the cause.
Because all of our subscribers are not on social media, we will be sending an email out at the end of each week wrapping up our weekly digest of organizations and people.
Stay safe and stay home!
The RCA Board
April 5, 2020
If you are like us, your head is spinning from the reality of a spring, unlike any we have seen before. We are collectively grieving a loss of normalcy, of security, of connectedness, and, of course, life. What all of us on the Rowayton Civic Association know is that often, times of crisis bring about altruism, resilience, and solidarity in ourselves and in others.
Today, we are announcing the Rowayton for Rowayton initiative. Our hope is to create awareness about neighbors and local organizations that are either in need or showing extraordinary altruism, support them in whatever ways we can, and, where possible, create new opportunities for Rowaytonites to give back. Here is a quick video from our fellow RCA board members, explaining where we are today.
We are grateful to be in a position to use our voice to help others and focus on the crisis at hand. We are doing the best we can to feature people and organizations in real-time, but we cannot do this alone. Please share your ideas of who we can highlight and stories of superhero neighbors. Follow us on social media (@rowaytoncivicassociation) to be a part of it all!
Be the change you want to see in the world!
The best thing we can do right now as a community is to commit to ourselves and our neighbors to follow social distancing and the “Stay Safe, Stay Home” guidelines. Receive updates from Norwalk city officials on Instagram (@norwalk_ct) and don’t forget to shine a light or ring a bell at 7:00p.m. daily in solidarity for Norwalk residents. We are all dreaming of days when gathering in groups, going to dinner with friends, and high-fiving after a soccer game are thoughtless realities. In the meantime, each of us has the power to flatten the curve.
Highlighting Rowayton businesses in need
Many of us are wondering how we can be a part of the solution. We will have a digest of local businesses and organizations that could use your loyalty on our website. Everyone is getting creative these days – let’s make it count.First up — restaurants. Consider supporting our local restaurants by ordering take out, or sending a meal to someone in need!
Rowayton Pizza has donated over $1000 worth of food to our first responders, and put together care packages for our heroes on the front lines in agencies exposed to COVID on a daily basis. Rowayton Pizza is offering 10% off on all catering including pizza and will make arrangements to have those delivered to folks who need it most. Lastly, RP is engaged in a food shelter ‘Pay it Forward’ initiative where a percentage of their weekly proceeds will be converted to food products and sent to various food shelters throughout Our community. Hats off to you, Rowayton Pizza!
Saluting Rowaytonites lending a helping hand
We want to give credit where it is due and help you set an example for your neighbors. We will also be featuring the heroes among us. Know someone doing something to help? Local doctors, nurses, or essential workers working on the frontlines? We would love to feature them as well. Send submissions to Meg Schwanhausser.
Supporting our greater neighborhood organizations
As needed, we will feature local people and organizations that could use our collective help. They will be featured on social media along with links on how you can get involved. To kick us off, here are some local organizations to consider making a tax-deductible donation to today. Prefer a ‘boots on the ground’ approach? Click on the links below to find out more about how you can help or donate!
But wait, what about the traditional RCA events I love so much?
As the RCA navigates planning for future events, your health and well being are at the forefront of our minds. Be assured that we are weighing all options as we continue to plan for our 2020 slate of events and will remain in close communication with local public and health officials. We are making decisions about which events to hold or postpone in real-time and will post updates regularly.
There will again be a time when we celebrate together at a Bayley Beach concert, watch our youngest neighbors march in parades, and light up our town together — but for now, let’s roll up our sleeves and tackle what is front of us. It’s Rowayton for Rowayton and there is no place we would rather be.

RCA Comedy Night is postponed!
Friday, Sept 11th & Saturday, Sept 12th
Rowayton Community Center
As we navigate together the unprecedented events in our world, we are continuously impressed with the neighborly-vibe of our special town. We know we will continue to see and hear examples of compassion and collaboration. As you are likely aware, both national and local leaders have discouraged gatherings of groups larger than ten people. The Rowayton Civic Association has been working with our local elected officials and we feel it is in the best interest of our community to postpone the RCA Comedy Night that was scheduled for Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th. The new dates are Friday, September 11th and Saturday, September 12th. We will no longer hold the in-person ticket sale for Rowayton residents on Saturday, March 28th. Please stay tuned over the next several weeks for a new date for ticket sales in June.
Also, in an effort to be responsible and keep our community healthy, the Rowayton Civic Association has canceled the Easter Egg Hunt (scheduled for April 4) and will postpone Trash Bash (previously scheduled for April 25) until Saturday, June 20.
As our community bands together know that the RCA will continue to work hard to support Rowaytonites, just in less visible ways. We hope to see you all, safe and healthy, at summer events on the other side of this. Be sure to check our website for any updates.
