Slow Down in Town!
Rowayton is a quaint neighborhood with winding roads and a beautiful landscape. We pride ourselves on our town, our families, our friends, and our community. But what would our community be if we could not walk to
town or let our kids ride their bikes? The RCA has heard you and is dedicated to helping the cause.
Our message is loud and simple, SLOW DOWN IN TOWN. You will see our subtle reminders through town; a Witch Lane banner, a Rowayton Avenue banner, yard signs and online marketing efforts. We are working with our town councilmen on how to reduce speeding, and will continue to exhaust our efforts until everyone slows down.
Please do your part and take an extra five minutes to get ready for work or if it allows, just be late, but SLOW DOWN IN TOWN! The Rowayton Civic Association thanks you!
Rowayton Civic Association’s Junior RCA
You may have noticed a growing number of local high school students helping as volunteers at RCA events. This is largely because of the Junior RCA program, which was instituted in 2016. The Jr. RCA is a partner organization formed to support the activities of the RCA and to encourage civic engagement among local high school students.
Jr. RCA members are involved in the planning and execution of most RCA-sponsored events during the year and they are also expected to plan at least one self-directed civic project each program year. Members have been a big part of successful RCA-sponsored events so far, this year including the Memorial Day Parade, the RCA Fun Run, and the River Ramble. These events turn out to be a great way for the students to spend time together, have new experiences, and spend time working alongside other active members of our community!
The current membership of 18 students are all in their sophomore and junior year at Brien McMahon. Coordination with the RCA is led by this year’s Jr. RCA President, Anna Bean. Students members are eligible to join the Junior RCA during the spring of their sophomore or junior years of high school. New members will be accepted at the end of this program year in February 2018. Interested students should reach out to a current member of the RCA/Jr. RCA, or for more information contact Rob Strickland.
