RCA Summer Highlights
The 2016 RCA Summer Music Festival
Packing up the cooler, laying down a picnic blanket, visiting with friends and listening to great tunes is how we’ve all become accustomed to spending Sunday evenings in the summer. The 2016 RCA Summer Music Festival provided another 10 opportunities to continue that Rowayton rite of summer, featuring one of the best line ups of rising, talented acts we’ve ever had.
We all got funked up at Bayley Beach in July listening to Ripe and Eric Krasno, rocked out to The Record Company in an old school show at Roton Middle, chilled to The Movement’s reggae riffs and kicked our heels up to the country sound of Futurebirds.
The party moved to Pinkney Park in August for the blues of the James Hunter Six and the bluegrass of Cabinet as well as a classic show put on by The Weight.
It all culminated in a spectacular Labor Day finale as we welcomed back festival favorite Eric Lindell.
Throngs of area residents, families and friends flocked to the shows. Without the generous support of local businesses and residents in the Rowayton, Norwalk and Darien communities, we would never be able to bring these top acts to town.
This amazing experience for our community would not happen without the tireless efforts of the RCA Summer Music Committee. Many thanks to our all-star band of Matt Manley, Paul Curtin, Chris Gorman, Drew Seath, the hardest working man in show business – Brendan McGee and the hardest working man in town – RCA president Andy Meyerson. We begin planning for hot summer nights in the cold, blustery days of January – scouting, inquiring and booking the bands as well as hitting the street in search of sponsorships. When it’s finally show time, this crew spends Sundays setting up behind the scenes and then breaking it all down when everyone goes home.
Others that are an integral part to the effort include: Peter Blandori who provides graphic design, Scott Kuykendall of Oxygen Design who produces our digital content, the professional sound is provided by Brooks Dubois Audio, and Andy Schadt of Soluxe for merchandise. Susan and Melissa Bucciarelli keep the parking lot organized. Ben Bresnahan helps lead the sanitation crew and has the official shirt to prove it. As if all the time he devotes to Little League isn’t enough, Rich Van Steen passes the jug and moves merchandise. Don Wilson keeps the grounds in order, and Ed Carlson and Mike Barbis provide valuable counsel on all logistics. Special thanks also goes out to RCA treasurers Lynn Worland and Sue Casey who keep our books (and our minds) in order. Thank you to everyone for coming to the shows. The turnout was tremendous and there is a palpable, welcoming vibe the artists feel when they come to town. Lastly, thank you to everyone who “filled the jug” at the concerts. Your generous support is vital to what we do. We all had a blast. Just another piece of what makes our town a littleslice of heaven… let’s do it again next Summer!
