Letter from the RCA President

September 2016

Andy Meyerson,
RCA President

As the Summer sun sets and the Autumn harvest arrives, Rowayton continues to demonstrate why it’s such a glorious place to live. The New England air becomes crisp and cool, the foliage takes on beautiful colors and farm stands fill with mums, crunchy apples and orange pumpkins. As vacations end and school starts, we reflect on a Summer that was filled with beaching, boating, and jumping off the Bell Island bridge, with RCA events that filled our weekend calendars:

  • The Comedy Weekend brought two nights of laughter in May
  • The Memorial Day Parade reminded us that we live in a small town with a tight knit community with much to be thankful for
  • The Father’s Day Fun Run tested our fitness and stamina in a casual 5k run
  • Independence Day brought an afternoon and evening filled with music and the best Fireworks display in Fairfield County
  • The River Ramble had the biggest crowds ever with beer, food and game tickets selling out
  • The Summer Music Festival continued to offer an unprecedented assembly of talent every Sunday evening
  • The Cinema on the Sound debuted with 3 fun movies in beautiful outdoor settings
  • The Ladrigan Swim Races closed the summer season, with a day of fun at Bayley

Autumn is an equally beautiful time in Rowayton. Although the days get shorter, and the temperatures get cooler, it’s still plenty nice outside to enjoy our beaches, our waterways, and our beautiful walking village.  During the Fall, the RCA maintains a calendar of events enjoyed by all ages; Youth Soccer and Underground start right after Labor Day, the Fourth Annual Oktoberfest is scheduled for October 1, and the Halloween Haunted House will take place on October 23. Then to bring 2016 to a close, the RCA stages our trio of holiday celebrations: Light Up Rowayton, the annual Santa Run and our much celebrated Nativity Pageant.

This past year the RCA made a big effort to go beyond just organizing events and granting financial assistance to non-profit groups. We’ve made an effort to increase our communication to the community so that residents are abreast of events, hearings and public gatherings. We’ve grown our email list, we’ve migrated to a new Facebook page, and we’ve redesigned our website www.rowaytoncurrents.com to have a cleaner look that includes a calendar of events and all Rowayton happenings.

The RCA continually looks to improve our promise stated in our mission, which is to enrich the lives of Rowayton residents through providing cultural programs, educational events and supporting local community initiatives. To accomplish this mission, the RCA Board now has 25 members, who are dedicated, committed, and hardworking whose volunteerism allows us to have so many wonderful things to enjoy in town.

The RCA wouldn’t exist without donations made by generous residents, friends and sponsors. As our events continue to grow, so do our needs for additional support.  Please consider donating to our upcoming annual fund or sharing your talents by joining the RCA as a Board Member. Your support allows us to give back, not only to our own events, but also to the educational and cultural institutions that make our little community truly special. We have been fortunate enough this year to provide grants to: Rowayton Elementary School, Roton Middle School, Brien McMahon High School, Rowayton Gardeners, Rowayton Little League, Underground, Shakespeare on the Sound, The Rowayton Library and Norwalk Youth Basketball.

More and more I hear from residents “Thank you for what the RCA does for the town.”  Hearing that and knowing that the RCA makes a difference is truly one of the greatest rewards.  I’m going on my 18th year as a resident and it’s been an honor to lead the RCA filled with amazing volunteers who also love making a difference.

See you around town.

Andy Meyerson
RCA Board President
