School & Youth Activities
The RCA Underground
October 2017 – June 2018
Fall is here and we are busy planning another great year with the Rowayton Youth Underground for the 2017-2018 school year. The Rowayton Youth Underground is an RCA sponsored program that provides a safe and supervised venue where our middle-school kids (6th, 7th & 8th graders) can socialize with friends one Friday night a month, with adult chaperones. Weather permitting, there are also outdoor activities such as basketball, paddle tennis and touch football. Sixth and 7th graders meet on one Friday night per month and 8th graders will be another. Time is from 6:30-8:30pm. A one-time registration fee of $125 for the year (October-June) pays for staff, special events, field trips and pizza and snacks. Local “field trips” off site may include My Three Sons, Skyzone and are always a highlight as well as the year-end Bayley Beach picnic in June.

Community Cooperative Nursery School Open Houses
Saturday, November 4th
Tuesday, January 9th, 2018
Make plans to join us for an Open House at CCNS on either Saturday, November 4th or Tuesday, January 9th at 4 Trolley Place, Rowayton. Explore first-hand what makes our school’s morning-only drop-off programs for children ages 2, 3, and 4 so special.
Founded in 1953, CCNS proudly remains one of the few cooperative preschools licensed by the State of Connecticut. As a cooperative program, parents gain the opportunity to actively participate in their children’s learning at a dynamic time in their lives.
Learning through play is at the heart of the CCNS experience. The school offers an emergent-based curriculum that builds upon children’s natural curiously and interests while delivering important development objectives to prepare them for elementary school and beyond. CCNS uses a project approach to deeply engage children and build motivation for continued questioning and a life-long love of learning and exploration.
Please visit ccnsct.org to learn more about the school. To RSVP for one of the Open Houses, set up a tour or speak to our director, please email us.

Five Mile River Nursery School offers an NAEYC Accredited Preschool Program, with Enrichment and Summer programs for children ages 2 – 5. Our mission is to provide a warm, nurturing, and engaging atmosphere allowing children to be creative and adventurous learners.
Our well-educated, caring and enthusiastic teachers have extensive early childhood training and experience. They present a mixed curriculum including Bank Street, Creative Curriculum and Emergent.
The goal at FMRNS is for children to develop a frame of reference of ideas, knowledge, problem solving, motor and social skills that will prepare them for a lifetime of learning. 6th Annual Walkathon
Friday, October 6, 2:00pm
(rain date Monday, October 9)
The Walkathon is back! Get ready for more fun as we start the 6th Annual Rowayton School Walkathon. Last year’s walkathon was another success story – we raised over $31,000 with more than 95% of the students bringing in pledges! The funds were used to purchase new furniture for the renovated cafeteria, sponsor exciting new school enrichment programs, expand our technology program to 2nd grade, purchase a projector screen for the gymnasium – and much more!
Fundraising efforts will begin on Tuesday, September 5th. There will be prizes and fun for all that participate! This year, we hope to raise at least $25,000 which will go towards:
- School library improvement programs (including learning commons with collaboration stations and an enhanced inventory of books)
- New display monitors to more effectively communicate to students and parents in the school
- Continued cafeteria renovations
The 2017 Walkathon will take place on Friday, October 6th (rain date of Monday, October 9th) at 2pm on the School Field. All family and friends are welcome to come cheer the students as they walk one mile around the school field.
